Stillwell's Camp

Stillwell's Camp established in the 1800's.

Many a good meal has been consumed at this ol' fish camp.

The original Peckerwood Hunting Club had a weekly fish fry here every Thursday. Enoch Knight, Felton Morris, Ralph Funk, and others from the nearby community shared in the fish supply for these get togethers.

The gates were left open just after Deer season to give our friends in the community access to the Sabine.

Fred Sue Stillwell, his Uncle Bob Stillwell, and all the Stillwell boys; Edd,Milton and Tiffen, roamed this bottom just behind the Caddo Indians.

A tree fell on the camp once, and it was moved closer to the river bank. The camp was set on fire once, and the Stillwell's and their friends and neighbors came and re-built and even added on. Folks like Mike Bagley,Todd Davis,Bill Dan Davis,Mark Coleman,Bubba Hudson, Max and Tiffen Stillwell, and a bunch of friends came to the re-risen' of a Historic Camp on the mighty Sabine.

The first annual "PeckerWoodStock" peace , love, and music, gathering was a big sucess in April of 2006. The second PWS is scheduled for the first weekend in March 2007.

The farmer's almanac calls for good weather for the '07 gathering and theres even going to be a total lunar eclipse. Fishing will be good in the evenings. I just checked and the only thing legal to hunt then will be geese somewhere in Texas and of course hogs. Everybody wants the hogs thinned out.

the 4th is the second Sunday of lent. That eclipse is sat. 3rd around sunset at 6pm.

Friday evening I like to call man night, not sure why, but cussin is allowed. Saturday is family day, the big event! and Sunday is official the morning after,clean-up, left overs..
